What is a "folkehøgskole"?
And what about Pasvik?
What is a "folkehøgskole" ?
A year at a "folkehøgskole" in Norway is a unique opportunity to experience Norwegian nature, language and culture, and participate in exciting social activities along with other young people from Norway and the rest of the world. This is a year that will stay with you forever!
You' ll see that it's not like an ordinary school. All "folkehøgskoler" have no set academic curriculum, which means no grades or exams.
Here, you will learn through experience and social interaction. This method of teaching is a part of the philosophy of these schools.

Pasvik Folkehøgskole
Pasvik Folkehøgskole has a special program for foreigners wanting to learn the Norwegian language and about Norway's culture and history. Foreign students will have separate classes in Norwegian language, but will also be integrated in other classes with Norwegian students.
Our school is situated in Finnmark, the northernmost and most exciting county of Norway. In fact we are situated right by the border to Russia.
Even though we are far north, travelling here is quite easy. The flight from Oslo is just two hours, and the airport is only 40 km from Pasvik.
Our district is approximatly 69 degrees northern latitude. The climate means that you will have the opportunity to go skiing as much as you want. You can also try reindeer and snowmobile - driving.
Thanks to the Gulf Stream the winters are relatively mild. The average temperature in January is about minus 10, but every winter it may drop down to minus 30.
This, together with the northern light in the winter-sky, is an amazing experience!
Being so close to Russia, you will get the opportunity to travel to Russia and learn about this vast country.
As a foreign student you will be in a class with other foreigners. All of you have at least one thing in common; that you want to experience the most exciting region in Europe.
Our school is open to everyone. We do ask, however, that you have some knowledge in English before arriving.
One year at Pasvik Folk High School costs about 8000 Euros. This includes everything except spending money.
Welcome to Pasvik Folkehøgskole
Åsmund Røst
Principal
Åsmund is not like other headmasters.
He has "a spark in the eye", as we say here, and seldom says no to a game of pool with the students. In addition, he is a passionate follower of English football and he simply loves salmon fishing.
You can apply for scholarship from different institutions, such as:
